The recently revised Process Safety Management (PSM) standard set forth by the State of California aims to reduce the risk of major accidents by eliminating or minimizing the process safety hazards to which employees may be exposed. The Interagency Group consisting of various governmental agencies, including the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA), has proposed new PSM requirements to improve public and worker safety at petroleum refineries.
