American Society of Mechanical Engineers
The quality systems of more than 7,000 companies in more than 70 countries are currently certified by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The ASME Certification Mark is used to indicate that the stamped item(s) conform to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), as well as the Bioprocessing Equipment (BPE) Standard and Reinforced Thermoset Plastic Corrosion-Resistant Equipment (RTP-1) Standard. Utilization of the Certification Mark is a means of complying with the laws and regulations in nearly all US states and Canadian provinces.
European Pressure Equipment Directive
In Europe, all equipment that stores fluids at a pressure greater than 0.5 bar must comply with the European Union (EU) Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and show a CE mark. This European-wide legislation applies in all EU Member States and many other European countries. Equipment regulated under PED (official ref. 97/23/EC and 2014/68/EU from July 2016) includes vessels, pressurized storage containers, heat exchangers, steam generators, boilers, industrial piping, safety devices and pressure accessories.
Through our global partnership with UK-based HPi Verification Services (EU Notified Body #1521), we can help you obtain the necessary certificates for all equipment in the scope of the PED as well as material approvals. Our joint team also provides approval testing and certificates for welding procedures and personnel employed in PED production activities. An online PED training program is available, for which successful candidates will receive a certificate from the Notified Body in Europe.
Canadian Registration Number
The Canadian Registration Number (CRN) is a number issued by each province or territory of Canada identifying that the design of a boiler, pressure vessel, pressure piping system or fitting meets the requirements of and has been accepted and registered for use in that province or territory. The province or territory is represented by numeric digits following the decimal point within the CRN as shown:

The manufacturer or person constructing or bringing into a province (10 in total) a boiler, pressure vessel, pressure piping system or fitting must submit designs, including drawings, calculations and specifications, for review, quoting and registration.

Our Registered Professional Engineers conduct an independent survey of the design to verify that it meets the registration requirements. We then work with agencies such as ABSA (Alberta) and TSSA (Ontario) to obtain your registration number for that province.
American Petroleum Institute
The American Petroleum Institute (API) is the only national trade association that represents all aspects of America's oil and natural gas industry. API comprises more than 600 corporate members, including producers, refiners, suppliers, pipeline operators and marine transporters, as well as service and supply companies. API certification is considered to be the most trusted credential in the petrochemical industry.
Code of Federal Regulations
According to the United States Government Publishing Office, the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) annual edition is the codification of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the departments and agencies of the Federal Government. It is divided into 50 subject matter titles that represent broad areas subject to Federal regulation and which are updated once each calendar year.

The Directive on Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres (2014/34/EC) entered into force on 1 March 1996 and was updated in 2013. The Directive is commonly referred to as the ATEX Directive (ATmospheres EXplosibles), but may also be called the ATEX Equipment Directive or ATEX 95. The Directive applies to electrical and/or mechanical equipment used on the surface, below the ground and on fixed offshore installations.
In addition to the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EC, which covers the safety requirements for equipment to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres, there is an additional European ATEX Directive, 99/92/EC. This is also known as the ATEX Workplace Directive, or ATEX 137, and highlights what employers must do to minimize the risk to workers from explosive atmospheres. ATEX 137 also classifies hazardous areas where an explosive atmosphere could form by the type of hazard.

Indian Boiler Regulations
Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR) standards cover the design, fabrication, inspection, testing and certification of boilers and boiler components and materials for compliance by the manufacturers and users of boilers in India. Boiler and boiler component manufacturers sending these products to or those manufacturing them in India require an IBR certification provided by an Inspecting Authority. Inspecting Authorities are agencies recognized by the Central Boiler Board as an IBR certifying authority. ABS Consulting, a subsidiary of ABS Group, is recognized as an Inspecting Authority globally, as well as a Competent Authority outside India for issuing certificates to welders of boilers and boiler components.
Singapore Product Registration (MOM)
All boilers and pressure vessels to be used in Singapore must be registered with the Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM) according to the Workplace Health Regulations. Under the Workplace Safety and Health (General Provisions) Regulations, you must register the following types of pressure vessels:
- Air receivers (AR)
- Steam receivers (SR)
- Refrigeration plant pressure receivers (PR)
- Steam boilers, including autoclaves (BR)
- Economisers (BE)
- Superheaters (BS)
If these boilers and pressure vessels are fabricated overseas, they must be inspected during construction by an approved overseas inspection agency. The Singapore Ministry has approved ABS Consulting as an overseas inspection agency, which can provide services worldwide.

Malaysia Product Certification (DOSH)
The Malaysian Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) administrates and enforces legislation to ensure that the safety, health and welfare of people at work as well as others are protected from hazards resulting from occupational activities in the following industrial sectors: manufacturing; mining and quarrying; construction; agriculture, forestry and fishing; utilities (gas, electricity, water and sanitary services); transport, storage and communication; wholesale and retail trades; hotels and restaurants; finance, insurance, real estate and business services; public services and statutory authorities. DOSH has certified various companies' inspectors as Inspection Authorities for Certification.
This certification covers boilers and pressure vessels that are to be exported to Malaysia. Areas to be covered and inspected consist of:

- Qualification of Inspectors
- Inspection and Certification

Local Content (Brazil)
The Brazilian petroleum industry has been entering into concession contracts since 1997 to explore domestic reserves. Nevertheless, this market opening has exposed existing gaps in expertise, technology, human resources and infrastructure between Brazilian and foreign firms. For this reason, the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) decided in 2008 to implement the Local Content program for the purpose of promoting economic development and the transfer of technical knowledge to Brazilians.
