Ms. Julie Ott, S.E., P.E. is the ABS Consulting’s Senior Manager – Operations for incident investigation and training. Ms. Ott has over 30 years’ experience in structural engineering, risk analysis, physical security, root cause analysis, incident investigation and evidence preservation.
Ms. Ott has assisted numerous refining, chemical, manufacturing and power (nuclear and fossil) facilities in incident investigations, evidence preservation, root cause analysis and structural deconstruction support/analysis following significant operational incidents. As well as provides instruction in incident investigation and RCA methods through ABS Consulting’s training department.
Ms. Ott has investigated the effects of natural and man-made extreme loads on numerous types of structures and has provided construction, retrofit, and deconstruction design and project management on projects thought the United States, Canada, Mexico, Africa and Europe.
She is a security subject matter expert for U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Infrastructure Security Compliance Division, providing support to DHS ISCD in the area of physical security for chemical facilities. In addition, she also consults for DoD and DoE for structural Forced Entry/Ballistic Ratings (FE/BR) of facilities worldwide.
Ms. Ott has had a vast array of experience working on structural seismic upgrades of buildings, renovation and new design of: performing/fine arts centers, city halls, water treatment facilities, public safety buildings, courts, custom wood and log home, community centers, equestrian faculties, office buildings, primary and secondary education facilities.
Ms. Ott has personally executed or served as project manager for over 30 years on projects and supervised staff of structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers, architects and designers working on multiple projects concurrently. As a project manager, Ms. Ott has had overall responsibility for scope, schedule, budget and quality.
Ms. Ott has been integrally involved in the Structural Engineers Association of Utah (President), the National Council of Structural Engineers and written legislation for the Structural Engineers Practice Acts. In 2008 the Utah Governor's Council and Utah Engineer's Council named Ms. Ott the Utah Engineer of the Year.
